Vein Treatments Q & A

What are vein treatments?

Vein treatments are a group of outpatient procedures that minimize the appearance of spider veins, varicose veins, and other vein-related skin imperfections. Thanks to modern tools and treatment techniques, it’s possible to safely remove veins quickly and effectively.

At Heart Care Centers of Florida, the providers perform vein treatments on-site. Because the procedures are minimally invasive, you can return to work, school, or other routine activities immediately following your appointment.

What are some common vein treatments?

At Heart Care Centers of Florida, the team offers various vein treatments, including:

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a vein treatment that involves your provider injecting a medical-grade solution –– called a sclerosant –– into one (or multiple) veins. When the sclerosant enters a vein, it causes it to scar and collapse, allowing blood to reroute into healthier veins throughout your body.

Radiofrequency ablation

During radiofrequency ablation, your Heart Care Centers of Florida provider uses a small wire to heat up a varicose vein or a spider vein. The heat causes your veins to thicken and collapse. Several weeks later, your body absorbs the veins, eliminating their appearance.

Endovenous laser ablation

Endovenous laser ablation mimics radiofrequency ablation. The difference is that it uses laser energy instead of radiofrequency energy to treat veins. At Heart Care Centers of Florida, the providers use laser ablation to treat varicose veins deep inside the leg.

Ambulatory phlebectomy

During ambulatory phlebectomy, your provider administers a local anesthetic to numb your legs. Once you’re comfortable, they make a small incision next to a varicose vein and use a special tool to carefully remove it.

At Heart Care Centers of Florida, the team uses ambulatory phlebectomy to treat large varicose veins that don’t respond to other types of treatment.

What type of vein treatment might benefit me?

To determine the type of vein treatment that will most benefit you, your Heart Care Centers of Florida provider reviews your medical history, asks about your symptoms, and conducts an exam. Depending on your age and needs, they might also order ultrasound testing or another type of diagnostic imaging to assess the health of your heart and circulatory system.
